Thursday Things #94
Music goosebumps, "little" things, pajama non-judgement, a surprise and a weekend blessing.
Welcome! Every other Thursday, I share a handful of things I'm loving, reading, watching, listening to or just discovered. In other words, what I'd text you about if I had your number or mention if we met up for coffee! I'm so glad you're here. :)
Well, she’s for real married.
In a truly shocking turn of events, I didn’t cry during the Maid of Honor toast. This, my friends, is called disassociation and also a very strong desire to not blubber in front of strangers. There were really only two options, cry alllll the tears or tap into a public speaking mindset, so we leaned hard to the right. No worries, though, because I made up for it when the bridesmaids gathered to pray over Erin—and then again as she walked down the aisle and promised forever. And then, of course, walking back into a half-empty, completely silent apartment. After six years of daily life together, the visual of far-reaching change is inescapable. What I’d give for them to move one building over instead of hours away! But the walls are about to get a little sprucing up because WEDDING PICTURES. Who needs a table to eat at or chairs to sit in when you can stand and look at what turned out to be such a beautiful day? We don’t have the official gallery yet but no matter, I just keep flipping through my camera roll.
I’m rambling, clearly.
I’ve said fewer words to anyone this week than I have in months—years?—ever?—and I think you can tell.
We’re playing major catch up on all. the. things. (including designing the July print for All The Things—paid subscribers, it’s coming your way next week!!!) and honestly, the last two weeks have held very little of anything beyond work, packing, moving, wedding prep and soaking up the lasts. A few Good Things slipped in, though, so as always I’m passing them along! (Click leave a comment at the bottom to add a good thing you’d like to share with the class.*)
*I mentioned Abbott Elementary in a previous Thursday Things round-up. They just received 9 (more) Emmy nominations and have officially been renewed for Season Three. I was late to hop on board this train, but I am all the way here for it yespleaseandthankyou.
Thank you, Elyse.
Speaking of late to board, I am not your girl for the latest musical sensation sweeping the nation. I’ll hear it approximately three to five years down the road when everyone already knows every word to every hit that somehow passed me by. But! Elyse Myers shared a few songs from Lawrence in her IG Stories and I fell down the rabbit hole.
Goosebumps at 2:21.
Correct on both accounts.
I’ve mostly been offline, other than for work, but I saw both of these and immediately hit save because YES. Wildly different—both 100% true.
And then God showed up with a deck.
The backstory is in the caption (linked below), but warning: I used all the characters allowed. The moment deserved it, but the summary is this:
God can hold your too much.
If you’re walking through change or loss, a diagnosis or betrayal, loneliness or a long wait—whatever you're facing, God sees.
And He cares down to the smallest detail.
💛
Lore’s weekend blessings.
Remind me, have I shared one of Lore’s weekend blessings with you before? I know I’ve pointed to a few of her posts over the years, but I’m blanking on if I specifically mentioned her Friday evening blessings.
Alas. Let me say or re-say for the record, Lore is a fabulous writer. So much so that I often save her posts when I scroll by in the feed, then come back later that day or the next to sit and read when I can really savor, think, and appreciate—not just the sentence structure or the metaphor, but the ordinary beauty captured in a small square. It’s the blessings that always get me, though.
Here’s her Instagram if you want these in your feed too—and here’s the one from this past weekend:
A blessing for your weekend,
May there be a porch or a swing or a puzzle or a great great sunset. May the humidity break or at least the rain hover over for long enough to breeze across your face. May there be red geraniums. May the ache you’ve felt all day be quelled, even if the resolution hasn’t come yet. May you have a good book or ten to settle down with this weekend. May you not see the ending coming. May you surprised by the presence of someone you thought was an enemy last year. May they (or you) have awakened to something that made them (or you) remember grace and goodness and growth. May you not jump through even one hoop this weekend. May your schedule be full of yes, yes, yes out of an abundance of cheer. And if there is a no (because there always is), may it be borne of freedom. May a need be met in you by someone else this weekend and may you meet a need in someone else, one you don’t even know about tonight. May that person whispering no good about you find something better and kinder to talk about. May there be bullfrogs.
My blessing to you this week?
May your Thursday night include soft pajamas, may your Friday morning be filled with little things that actually aren’t that little, may your Saturday afternoon include a deck if you need it (😉), and may your Sunday be one you look back on and smile, even if through tears, at how God saw to the smallest of details.
Bonus: May the words all find a place to go and hugs be in generous supply. May laughter be abundant and Kleenex be on sale. May you have eyes to see the good of Right Now and Right Here, and may you dare to celebrate.
Thank you for sharing Lore's Instagram and her blessing. Thank you for sharing yours. There is something about the tenor of those words "May you ..... Find comfort, know the beauty of.....see joy in.....feel peace in.......amen.
I got to spend the night at a bed and breakfast in the town where I lived until I was 10 years old. Now my husband and I are continuing our trip across upper Michigan to the town where we met, went to school, graduated, and got married 52 years ago. This is a week/end 9f all the feels.
