The way you described American Idol is spot on! People doing what they were born to do! Love JMC (I also call him that). My fav by him is Live No Lies. He's the best at dissecting culture and then providing the spiritual antidote with its roots in scripture and Jesus.
The song I'm absolutely obssessed with, as in I have 5 different screenshots of it on my phone is Day by Day by Citizens. It just is that good.
Currently watching Smallville, and it's been interesting to think about how TV shows have changed since streaming. Since there are so many seasons, you really have to be invested for the long haul, but the show really makes it worth it to invest that long. Nowadays, I feel like shows have 8 to 10 episodes for a season, and it's a whirlwind but it's not to keep you invested.
Also LOVED Practicing the Way and Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. And I think that he would be fine with JMC. 😄
