My goodness! I really needed this today. Due to a very bad childhood and then later having my husband of 23 years abandon me, I have even as a young girl, always be looking to the future as where happiness and joy reside. Always reaching to “ oh, once I lose weight, finish a project, when I retire, etc as soon the time I will be happy. But when nice I reach one of those things I move the goalpost gain and again. For the past 15 months I have been looking to “ when I finally get a diagnosis after so long” I’ll be happy. 2 weeks ago I received not one but 4 diagnoses and have started treatment. Now the goalpost has once again been moved. It has moved to (again) once I lose 60 lbs. Your post has opened my eyes to see happiness and joy are possible in the present, in the everyday things, and despite hard things.
Thank you, your words are being used by God in mighty ways in so many people.
You are so kind, April... and I was struck by the timing of God's kindness, through your comment, to show that resharing was for someone (you!) at this exact time. It's wild how we always move the ladder, always want to reach for the next thing right away. I'm with you in learning to choose another lens!
